CONFERENCE: “ART AS SOCIAL AND THERAPEUTIC TRANSFORMATION”
30/04/2024
On April 30, the 6th conference organized by the RANA Foundation, in collaboration with the “laCaixa” Foundation and CaixaBank, was held at CaixaForum Palma as part of the agreement signed with the entity for the development and dissemination of the therapy program.
We were joined at the event by María Cruz Rivera, Regional Director, and Diego Riera, Head of Social Action, both from CaixaBank. We were also joined by Catalina Salom, Director of IBDONA (Instituto Balear de la Mujer), and Mar Pulido, Director of OBIA (Oficina Balear de la Infancia y la Adolescencia).
This event was an opportunity to demonstrate how art can transform pain and heal it, serving as a very useful tool for bringing about effective change in our society.
Our colleague, Camila Canales, explained the possible consequences of sexual abuse suffered in childhood and adolescence and how, at Fundación RANA, we use art therapy workshops to treat these consequences in adulthood. Pilar Carrero, who has extensive experience in the field and collaborates with RANA in developing the workshops, explained the history of art therapy from its beginnings to the present day and showed moving examples of how victims are able to express their trauma through drawing and other visual arts.
Mireia Planas and Alice Monteil, from Photographic Social Media, told us about their project “Material Sensible” (Sensitive Material), through which many people have been able to express their inner world through the lens of a camera, in many cases helping victims to verbalize the abuse they have suffered.
Beatriz Benavente and Sonia Cortejarena, psychologists from RANA, also participated in the conference, presenting and closing the event, and making interesting contributions based on their extensive experience.
This conference has led us to change our perspective and focus on the resilience of victims of sexual abuse to transform pain and heal through art.
