20 YEARS BREAKING THE SILENCE
26/03/2025
We celebrated our 20th anniversary with a morning of reflection and dialogue. Breaking the silence surrounding child and adolescent sexual abuse has been our mission in the Balearic Islands for the past two decades. Continuing to do so is our duty.
The event, held at Caixa Forum, was opened by Diego Riera from Fundación Bancaria La Caixa.
Gema Izquierdo, together with Pepa Horno and our founder, Elizabeth Homberg, looked back on these two decades of progress towards a better society through a review of the organization`s history and its main milestones.
Next, Patricia Raduán and Aina Maria Duran from RANA, Pep Campins, Aida Tristan, and Yolanda Seco reflected on the situation in education and training, emphasizing that the prevention of sexual abuse is the path to visibility for a hidden issue. Naming the invisible makes it visible.
After a break, Gema spoke with Maria Antonia Cantallops about the power of journalism to create a common awareness and reinforce our slogan, “Take action against child and adolescent sexual abuse.” The media is a loudspeaker, but it must also be sensitive when dealing with a delicate issue.
The day continued with a panel on psychological care, featuring Beatriz Benavente and Sonia Cortejarena, psychologists from RANA, accompanied by Elena González, Marina Estrany Grau, and Olga Guerra. Sexual abuse during childhood and adolescence can leave a mark on a person, which is why receiving specialized care is a right.
Patricia Moliné, patron of the Foundation, closed the conference by thanking all the people and organizations that have accompanied us over the past 20 years.
